It's compatible with Windows XP, Vista and 7, and Mac OS. I read reviews on Amazon and other sites before purchasing this drive and decided it was worth the risk because it was relatively inexpensive. I purchased the drive so I could create System Recovery Disks on a Dell desktop with Windows 10 that had a Read Only drive. I opened Windows explorer so I could monitor the drives on the system, and then plugged in the drive without worrying about software or drivers. I noticed a blip in Explorer (so fast I couldn't see what happened), and knew that the computer at least saw something. I rebooted the computer twice, went into Device Manager, and saw that the drive was recognized.

I created the recovery disks without any issues at all. This drive connected to and worked perfectly with Windows 10 without installing any drivers. However, I did have to reboot the machine twice and I used Device Manager to determine whether or not the drive was installed and available. While there may be some installation-related issues, this drive worked perfectly on Windows 10 without doing anything other than restarting the machine.

I ordered one of these because my new laptop didn't have one or a bay to install one. I ordered it in silver but I received a black one instead. Not a real issue for me. I am very pleased with the quality over all and it was just a matter of plugging it in.

I used it to load a few programs and had no issues. It comes with a software bundle for burning DVDs and CDs.

I wasn't very pleased with the way it loaded on my computer as it kept trying to delete and reload the programs. I gave up and shut down the loading process only to find that it had loaded and appears to be all there. I'm not sure about that yet as I haven't had a reason to use it. Other than the software which isn't needed to use the drive it is all that I had expected. Nice and slim and stows away in my carry case nicely.

It seems to be very well built for things of this nature in this day and age. I ordered this product because the drivers on my original CD drive were corrupted and everyplace on the internet I looked wanted money to install the drivers again. I bought this external drive, so I could take the drive where I wanted and use it on any computer.

When I took the drive out of the box, I noticed the drivers were on a CD-Rom. (If you need the drivers in the first place in order for the drive to work, and they're on a CD-Rom, how do you read the CD-Rom in the first place in order to get the CD drive itself to work?). I took the CD-Rom to another computer I had, and copied the drivers onto a thumb drive, but when I tried to install the drivers in the original computer using the thumb drive, the computer gave me a message that the original CD-Rom was required in order to install the drivers and make the CD-Drive work. So I took the drive back to Walmart and got my money back! In other words, you need an already working CD-Drive on your computer in order to install the drivers so that the new CD-Drive will work, and if you already HAVE a working CD drive in your computer, WHY do you need to buy an external one? I wasn't impressed!!! I'm not sure why so many people are rating this low.

Probably because the most likely people to rate a product are those that are dissatisfied. Being in the tech field I know just a little about electronics. I have a MacBook Pro that doesn't have a DVD drive so I needed an external drive and this one showed Mac compatible and it was very very reasonably priced so I gave it a try. The drive hooked up and worked right out of the box, ready to use.

I have used it with single layer and double layer DVD's and it burns both just fine. It definitely isn't the fastest drive out there but again for the price you get what you pay for, if you wanted a faster drive you need to pay for it. I've had the drive about 6 months and no issues whatsoever. I've burned data, iso images and movies all with no issue. I gave it 3 stars under features just because of the speed. It's small and easy to transport and definitely doesn't deserve the low ratings.

If you have a Mac this is a go to burner for a decent price. I'm still trying to get the hang of my MacBook Air so I'm not a techie by any means, but I agree with previous reviewers that this is extremely easy to install. Just like a mouse: plug in and start using. I was thrown off by the included cd, but that is for PC users or if you want to look at the user manual info. So far I have used it to play a DVD, CD and burned a CD. Everything worked as well as expected. Also, FYI, I ordered the silver version thru walmart.com and I received the silver and it arrived at the designated pick up location on time.
